ChildAware

We collaborated with ChildAware to build a robust compliance system that organisations can use to minimise the risk of child abuse occurring.

Background

The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse was established in response to allegations of sexual abuse of children across many Australian organisations. The enquiry lasted five years and highlighted how organisations have failed to keep children and young people safe in their care. To reduce the incidence of child abuse, the Royal Commission proposed 10 Child Safe Standards that all organisations should adhere to.

With the Child Safe Standards coming into effect in July 2022, the founder of ChildAware approached Bravo with a clear vision. She wanted to help organisations make sure they have the right people and the right processes in place, making organisations safe for children.

We’re proud to have been a part of this critical project, designing and developing a custom software system that assists child-related organisations in complying with the Child Safe Standards.

Our solution

We created a bespoke end-to-end compliance solution that can be used by organisations, families and individuals to minimise the risk of child abuse occurring. Our solution for ChildAware included:

  • A publicly accessible “read-only” landing page registration website to promote the service and drive organisations to register
  • A functional accounts-based website to facilitate registrations and payments, and for registered users (Organisation Admins, Staff, Parents and Children) to perform all required tasks
  • Differing levels of user access and permissions, with the Super Admin having the full range of capabilities within the system
  • Content-managed solution using Umbraco CMS
  • Hard-coded Child Safe Standards that vary from state to state as required by law
  • Ability for organisations to ‘log an action’ against a Child Safe Standard to record compliance
Various interfaces – details removed at request of client

  • An HR & Onboarding section for organisations to log identification documents, police checks and Working with Children checks against staff members
  • A Policies & Templates section for creating, sharing and signing policies
  • A robust complaints process that gives a level of control over who receives the complaint
  • An audit tool to generate audit reports that can be used to check compliance
  • Monthly/annual subscription services for organisations via Stripe payment platform
  • Ongoing support and maintenance from the Bravo team
  • Cloud-based secure and scalable hosting solution

Outcome

Our partnership with ChildAware has resulted in a powerful, important compliance system that is capable of having a real impact on the safety of children within organisations.

Our thoughtfully designed, technically strong solution drives organisational compliance with the Child Safe Standards and keeps organisations moving in the right direction. It propels cultural change by making child safety part of an organisation’s daily thinking. And it empowers children and parents with a voice through a robust and secure complaints process.

ChildAware has recently launched and we’re confident that many organisations will deeply align with its vision. We look forward to seeing the positive impact that this bespoke solution will have.
